I only just got up this morning. I'm sooo tired. I got up at half past six yesterday to go to Birmingham to play in the National Festival of Music for Youth. We weren't eve
n playing til ten past five. What is the point of turning up at half ten then?We spent most of the day wandering around Birmingham in the pouring rain. Which wasn't exactly fun. But the best bit came later. We played Slumber My Darling and Extracts from King Kong. We sounded awesome. You could see that the invigilators were impressed. Our band is pretty big and the sound was really good. When they were announcing the results all the people from our band were sat in the Upper Tier of the Symphony Hall Birmingham. It was pretty cool, they gave the highly commended award to KMS Shelley Music Centre Senior Wind Band. Everyone thought North Monmouthshire Senior Wind Band were going to win. But they didn't!! We did. It was so cool everyone jumped out of their seats and we were cheering and hugging. And then someone started 'Oggy oggy oggy...' We had a great time and the welsh were definitely the loudest!. Here's a full list of the category;
5B Music Centre
City of Sheffield Youth Festival Band
Flintshire Senior County Wind Band
KMS Shelley Music Centre Senior Wind Band
Newport Music Centre Senior Wind Band
North Monmouthshire Senior Wind Band
Rochdale Youth Wind Band
Sutton Youth Wind Orchestra
Torfaen Music Centre Senior Wind Band
Wirral Schools' Concert Band
WM+AC Festival Band
Unfortunately the Greater Gwent Youth Symphonic Winds didn't get the outstanding award that we did. But they were in a harder category. This doesn't mean that we get to play in the School's Prom in the Royal Albert Hall. But we could do. And it doesn't matter anyway because it was amazing to play in the Birmingham Symphony Hall.
